How We Review Dukascopy

Our review method for Dukascopy in the UAE: what we test, how we rank pricing, regulation, funding and platform quality before recommending anything.

Leveraged CFDs can drain an account quickly; most retail traders lose money.

We review Dukascopy the same way we review every broker on this site: as a fact-check first, an opinion second. Dukascopy Bank SA is a Swiss bank founded in 2004 in Geneva, licensed by FINMA as both a bank and a securities dealer, and it runs the SWFX Swiss FX Marketplace ECN. That puts it in a fairly small group of brokers where the entity behind the account is a deposit-taking bank rather than an offshore shell.

On our UAE pages that Swiss status sits side by side with a second fact. There is no SCA, DFSA or ADGM licence attached to Dukascopy, and no UAE onshore entity. We treat those two facts as equally important, because together they explain almost everything a UAE trader will actually experience: bank-grade accounting and platform depth on one side, a cross-border account opening process and no local regulator to escalate to on the other.

The Checklist We Use

Every broker gets scored on the same six dimensions, in the same order. Skipping one of them is how reviews turn into advertorials.

DimensionWhat we verifyWhy it matters here
Licence and entityRegulator, licence type, legal entity on the agreementDetermines who you can complain to
Client moneySegregation, bank status, withdrawal mechanicsDetermines what happens if the firm fails
PricingSpread plus commission, not spread aloneECN pricing hides cost in the commission
PlatformsOrder types, backtesting, automation, mobile parityDetermines what you can actually execute
FundingBase currencies, rails, deposit and withdrawal timelinesDetermines friction on every top-up
Local fitTax treatment, Islamic accounts, leverage caps, KYCDetermines whether it works for you in the UAE

The order is deliberate. Licensing and client money come first because they are binary. Pricing and platforms come next because they are measurable. Local fit comes last because it varies by emirate, residency status and whether you trade personally or through a company.

We do not weight marketing material at all. A homepage bonus banner or an award badge from an unknown body is not evidence of anything, and we do not count it in the score.

What We Verify On Regulation

Our first stop is always the register, never the broker's own "regulated by" footer. In the UAE there are three separate authorities depending on where the firm is based: the federal SCA, formally renamed the Capital Market Authority with the change effective 1 January 2026, for mainland; the DFSA for the DIFC; and the FSRA for ADGM. The DFSA public register at dfsa.ae and the SCA/CMA open-data register are both open to anyone, and the registration number on the register has to match the legal entity printed on the client agreement. If they do not match, that is a hard stop.

Dukascopy holds Swiss FINMA authorisation as a bank and securities dealer. It does not hold a local SCA/CMA, DFSA or FSRA licence.

FYI
A firm offering forex or CFDs to the UAE public is expected to hold a local licence, and offshore-to-UAE setups are common across the industry. What matters is that you know which entity holds your money and which regulator, if any, will act on your behalf if something breaks. With Dukascopy that regulator is FINMA.

The practical consequence is not dramatic. It is a reason to read the client agreement before funding it, and to understand that a dispute resolution route through a UAE authority does not exist for this account.

How We Measure Pricing

Spreads on their own tell you very little. A 0.1 pip GER40 quote with a commission attached can cost more than a 1 pip quote with none. So we always reconstruct the all-in cost per standard lot and compare it to the market.

Cost componentDukascopyTypical UAE-facing retail broker
GER40 spread~0.1-0.2 pip0.8-1.5 pip, no commission
Commission per USD 1M~USD 5-52.5, volume discountsOften none, cost inside spread
Minimum depositUSD 100 JForex, USD 1000 MT4/MT5USD 100-500 common
ModelECN, SWFX marketplaceMostly market maker B-book
Islamic accountSwap-free availableVery widely offered in UAE

Two things are worth pulling out of that table. First, the commission band is wide, from roughly USD 5 to USD 52.5 per USD 1M depending on volume and account tier, so a light trader and an institutional-scale trader are effectively paying different prices at the same broker. Second, the minimum deposit is higher than the UAE norm on the MT4 and MT5 side at USD 1000, which filters out the smallest accounts rather than competing for them.

We test pricing by pulling live quotes across sessions, not by reading a PDF. Spreads on GER40 during the London and New York overlap, roughly 16:00-20:00 GST, are the tightest available from the UAE, and that overlap is when most of our cost sampling happens.

Platforms We Actually Trade

Dukascopy's native platform is JForex 4, available on desktop, web and mobile. MT4 and MT5 are offered alongside it. That matters more than it sounds, because the platform determines which account type you open and therefore which minimum deposit applies.

PlatformFee modelNotes
JForex 4ECN, spread plus commissionNative ecosystem, full API and automation
MT4USD 1000 minimum depositFamiliar order flow, wide EA library
MT5USD 1000 minimum depositMulti-asset, more timeframes and tools

Our test is not "which platform is prettiest". It is whether the order types you rely on behave identically on desktop and mobile, whether historical data is deep enough for backtesting, and whether a strategy written for one platform survives translation to another. JForex has its own scripting environment and its own quirks, and traders arriving from MT4 spend the first week relearning habits. That is a real cost, just not a permanent one.

We also check the instrument list against what UAE traders actually ask for. Dukascopy covers FX, metals, CFDs on indices, commodities and stocks, crypto CFDs and bonds. That is a broader shelf than most CFD houses, and it means you can run a multi-asset approach without opening a second account.

Funding and Base Currency

Dukascopy offers AED among 20 or more base currencies, alongside USD, EUR and CHF. For a UAE-resident trader that removes a conversion step on every deposit and withdrawal.

StepWhat we foundTimeline
DepositBank wire or cardWire typically 1-2 business days
WithdrawalBack to source, or Dukascopy walletDepends on rail and verification
Base currencyAED among 20+ optionsSet at account opening
Local railsNo UAE-specific rails verifiedInternational wire or card

There is no exchange control in the UAE, and the AED is pegged to the USD at roughly 3.6725, so capital and profits move in and out freely. The absence of a local rail is a friction point, not a barrier: wires arrive, they just take a day or two. Standard AML and source-of-funds checks still apply on larger transfers, which is normal everywhere.

QUICK TIP
If you plan to fund and withdraw regularly in AED, set the account base currency to AED at opening. Changing it afterwards is a bigger job than choosing it correctly the first time.

Where Dukascopy Sits Versus Alternatives

Dukascopy is not a mass-retail broker. It is a Swiss bank with an ECN model, aimed at traders who care more about execution mechanics and counterparty quality than about deposit bonuses. That is closer to the institutional end of the retail spectrum.

How money moves in and out
MethodDeposit arrivesWithdrawal takes
Bank wire1-3 business days3-5 business days
Cardsinstant2-5 business days
AED offered among 20+ base currencies (also USD, EUR, CHF) · Min deposit USD 100 (JForex)

If your priority is a strictly regulated, transparent international broker with segregated client money, a long track record and pricing you can model in advance, Dukascopy answers most of the questions on our checklist, and it answers them from a Swiss bank balance sheet. A trader who wants tighter oversight than an offshore-only entity offers, without giving up ECN execution or multi-asset access, will find few names that fit the same profile.

Where the comparison shifts is convenience. A UAE trader who wants AED-local rails, instant card funding through a well-known local bank, a lower entry deposit and a familiar MT4 experience with no entity questions will find the process smoother somewhere else. Most brokers serving the UAE from offshore without a local licence advertise leverage of 1:500 to 1:1000 and above, which is a different product proposition entirely.

WARNING
Leverage up to 1:200 is available on the Dukascopy Bank SA retail account, dropping to 1:30 on weekends. Local SCA/CMA caps on mainland retail accounts are reported at around 1:50 on major FX pairs, and DFSA in the DIFC applies roughly 1:30. Verify current caps at dfsa.ae or uaecma.gov.ae before you size positions around a leverage number.

What Changes the Verdict

Two conditions decide whether Dukascopy is the right pick for you, and neither is about branding.

The first is account size and activity level. The USD 100 JForex minimum is reachable for most people, but the USD 1000 minimum on MT4 and MT5 is not an accident: the broker is not chasing micro accounts. If you trade a few hundred dollars a month, the commission structure and the platform learning curve will feel heavier than they need to. If you trade at scale, the volume discounts on commission and the ECN pricing become genuinely competitive, and the Swiss entity is worth more than the extra step in onboarding.

The second is how much you value a local regulator. There is no SCA/CMA, DFSA or FSRA licence behind this account, and no UAE onshore entity to escalate to. If your own rule is that the licensing entity must be under a local authority, then you should be looking at brokers that hold a DFSA or FSRA licence in the DIFC or ADGM, or an SCA/CMA licence on the mainland, and comparing their pricing and platforms on the same six dimensions we use above.

Everything else, the AED base currency, the swap-free option, the tax treatment, is workable on both sides. UAE individuals pay 0% personal income tax and 0% capital gains tax on trading profits as of 2026, with no personal filing duty, though the 9% corporate tax applies to business profits above AED 375,000 and a Qualifying Free Zone Person may qualify for 0% on qualifying income. If you trade through a company, confirm your position with the FTA at tax.gov.ae.

Questions

How do you verify a broker's licence for the UAE?

We check the public register first, not the broker's own site. For the DIFC that is the DFSA public register, for the mainland the SCA/CMA open-data licensed-companies register, and for ADGM the FSRA. The registration number must match the legal entity named on your client agreement, and the entity named on the agreement is the one you are actually contracting with.

Does Dukascopy have a UAE licence?

No. Dukascopy operates from Switzerland under FINMA authorisation as a bank and securities dealer, with no SCA/CMA, DFSA or FSRA licence and no UAE onshore entity. We report that as one line in the review and treat it as context for the entity question, not as a verdict on the broker.

How often do you re-check the numbers on this page?

Whenever a regulator publishes a change or the broker updates its schedule. The UAE leverage caps and the SCA-to-CMA rebranding are both live examples of things that move, which is why we point you at dfsa.ae and uaecma.gov.ae rather than asking you to take our figures on faith.
